Jen's SFYTT....Urban Garden style

My creative juices were coming to a quick halt earlier this evening, but then I realized (hit myself over the head) that I hadn't had supper yet!!! I was totally on a stamping roll and forgot all about eating. I made sure the kids ate and then snuck back in here to make more cards! LOL..Thanks, Melissa, for reminding me to EAT! HAHAHA...What are friends for hey?!?! I hopped on over to Jen's to see what sketch she had for us to try and ya know, these girls that make sketches for us, never cease to amaze me. How they come up with such great sketches each week is beyond me, but please, please, keep it up! They sure help!! Here is Jen's sketch:
And here is the card I chose to make. I grabbed for my Urban Garden DP scraps that I had in my scrapbox and ran away with the colors. I *heart* that designer paper from SU! Good thing they didn't discontinue that one hey?

Color Throwdown and Mojo Sketch Challenge

Good afternoon PEEPS!
We are experiencing high winds again today, but NUTHIN' like last night (insert wide eyes here). My good friend, Melissa, and I had to work Bingo last night and when we left the bingo hall, we didn't realize it would be THE MOST dangerous ride home we've ever experienced. We had 100 km/hr winds, along with flurries, and visibility was NEGATIVE. Melissa was my "ditch guide" and told me when I was getting too close to the right-hand ditch and there were a couple times we had to actually STOP right in the middle of the highway cuz I didn't have any bearings at all and couldn't see anything, not even the hood of my van :( What normally takes us about 1/2 hour to get home, took me 1.5 hours! I was never so happy to see my house and the chilled bottle of wine that I had in my fridge!!! LOL...I finally fell asleep around 2 a.m. I think...

So....onto today! I got up around 10:15 a.m. and started some coffee, and had my breakfast. I then got right to work baking gingersnaps and homemade buns. My son and Melissa's son are quite happy today (Sam spent the night last night) that I have decided to have a hunker-down-and-bake day :o) I am done all the baking for today and decided to sit and power stamp some cards out. I have a big craft sale on Thursday and Friday next week, so I need to pump out some serious cards here in the next few days. I am using my Bella's today along with Stampin' Up! sayings etc. I decided to take a stab at the Color Throwdown this week, and like Melissa, they are not colors I would ever think of trying to put together, but ya know...after I did this card, I don't mind the colors at all. So, it does pay to try a challenge here and there! I hope you enjoy the next few posts I have for you - I'll be crafting for the rest of the day/night....take care and happy stamping!

Terrific Thursday....

Today has been a good day. The kids only had a 3-day school week, so we all got to sleep in today! YIPEEE! After working at the school for the past week, being able to sleep in was a real treat for me :o) When I got up this morning, we were experiencing some wonderful fat flakes of snow and it lasted all morning into the afternoon - looked soooo pretty! Tonight after running some errands in town, I got to sit down and make some much needed sympathy cards. I bought this cuttlebug folder a while ago and have been really wanting to try it on some sympathy cards. I think it turned out wonderfully. What do you think?

I decided to spoil myself tonight and NOT do any household chores and sit in my craft room :o) I decided to go check out the Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch Challenge for this week and give it a whirl....I really liked how my sample turned out...here's the sketch they gave us:

Another sketch challenge - wahooo!

I hopped on over to Jen's blog and checked out her Sketch for You to Try.
This one had me a bit stumped - I knew what I *wanted* to do, but each image that I tried just didn't seem to work out. Then, when I was doing my last and final card, I realized AFTER I had glued down all my layers, that the one ribbon piece (or paper, whichever you chose to use) was supposed to be over the front of the left hand layer and under the right hand layer...OOOPS! Oh well, my ribbon is under both layers LOL...kinds defeats the purpose of having it there, cuz you can't really see it, but that's ok - learn as we go, right?!
I totally *heart* the designer paper I used for this card - it's again part of the DCWV paper pack that I bought at the Drayton Valley Scrapbook Store. And...I tried a new product tonight! The pink dots on the scallop circle are made with Liquid Pearls. How fun is that!?! I can make my OWN! Wahooo....I think I did pretty good for my first attempt..what do you think? :o) Thanks for stopping by tonight...toodles!

"Passionate" about Pink.....

I am feeling a bit under the weather today - I have been fighting a sore throat for the past couple days and this morning I woke up to a very plugged up nose and sinus headache. UGH! I am hoping that I can fight it off with lots and lots of garlic, eucalyptus and tea....

I have had a busy Saturday so far and decided to "treat" myself to a sit down in my craft room to catch up on a few challenges! Fun, fun, fun!! I decided to head on over to Color Throwdown and see what they had set out on Wednesday, and I combined these colors with the sketch challenge over at Our Creative Corner.

This is the card I came up with for both challenges. I totally LOVE it! I love the colors and the layout was super fun and easy. The card just "flowed" for me today....Yay!

Oh my goodness is today a day for latte's or what?!? This wind and blowing snow is crazy....the thermometer is reading -24C but with the windchill, it is -33C!! Brrr...good thing I got to stay home today and light my candles, bake, and play in my craft room :o)
After I got all my prep done for my second Stamp Club night this coming Monday, I sat down and made a little sumthin' sumthin'...I was at the Drayton Valley SS with my good friend, Leanne, last Monday and I bought a new stack of designer paper called The Sweet Stack by DCWV. I saw this sheet and saw "COFFEE" written all over it - not really sure why, maybe just the colors...so I went to work. Please see the recipe below. Thanks for stopping by on this cold, blustery night! Take care....

Busy week.....

Hey there crafting peeps! Sorry that I haven't *created* and posted for you, but I am working this week at my kids' school as a substitute Teachers Aide. I am not used to working everyday (boy, that didn't take long did it?!?) so please just hang in there and I'll really try hard to create sometime this weekend. I have another 5 busy days to get through and then I see some down time at the end of them. I hope you all are enjoying some time in your craft rooms and I would sure love to see some of your creations!

Winter Fun....

In my Stamp Club this year, we are making a 12 x 12 scrapbook calendar for the members to either keep or give away come 2010. This quick, easy Valentine has no layers, ribbon or embellishments!

Recipe:

Stamps: Thank You Kindly, Seasonal Icons and Best Wishes and More

Paper: Whisper White

Ink: Basic Black and Real Red

Ink, Spray and Smash technique

Hi, Cupcake!

Ohhhh...I love this new designer paper from Stampin' Up! It's called Raspberry Tart and there are some very nice patterns and colors in this pack of paper....
Tonight I decided to make 2 cupcake cards using the paper piecing technique. If you click on the image, you'll notice that the cupcake papers are actually designer paper...you stamp your image again on a piece of DP and then cut it out, and glue it onto your main image....FUN! Thanks for stopping by - I am off to bed. I have a very emotional day ahead of me tomorrow. The lady I told you about a while back that had brain cancer passed away last week and tomorrow is her funeral. She touched my life in a huge way and I was glad to help her clean her house and do household chores the past 4 or so months before she left us. She was a fighter....but now she doesn't have to fight anymore. She can rest.
Talk to you tomorrow...

Recipe:

Stamps: Hi Cupcake by Inkadinkadoo

Paper: Rose Red, Old Olive, Whisper White and Raspberry Tart DP

Ink: Basic Black

Accessories: glitter, glue pen, ribbon, half-back pearls, ticket corner punch, dimensionals

Fun with Square Punches...

I just got my Stampin' Up! square punches a couple weeks ago and haven't had the chance to use them. I found a card sketch on Splitcoaststampers that used them and I decided to make my own version. I had wanted to use a scallop nestabilities on the black square for the main image, but lo and behold, I do not own any! YIKES! That just *will not* do! I need to make a road trip to my LSS! *giggle* Thanks for stopping by!

Recipe:

Stamps: Beautiful You by Verve
Paper: 5.5 x 5.5 embossed card from michael's, basic black and designer paper from the Stampin' Up! hostess level, whisper white
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: square punches, black half-back pearls (Michael's), square nestabilities, paper piercer, dimensionals, prima flower.

A different Valentine....

I wanted to make a different Valentine's Day card using something "other" than hearts or the usual....so I found my Garden Whimsy set and used markers to create the main image. Thanks for looking!

Recipe:

Stamps: Garden Whimsy, Short and Sweet
Ink: Old Olive, Rose Red markers
Paper: Old Olive, Rose Red DP, Ski Slope DP
Accessories: old olive ribbon, word window punch

Pink Happy Birthday

I had fun making this one tonight! I used a Happy Birthday mini folder and placed it in the middle of my card front...then wasn't sure what to do with the sides! So, I used my Scor-Pal and made some boundary lines and filled those in with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I added my favorite touch to a card with the Ticket Corner Punch and then added some pink gingham and pink gems. Easy peesy! Thanks for stoppin' by....

A lovely thanks....

I am on a Cuttlebug folder frenzy tonight! Fun, fun, fun! I hope you enjoy this card as much as I do...it could be used for a sympathy, thank you, friend, any type of card - this leaves folder is very versatile! I am really excited about Stampin' Up! bringing out embossing folders for the Big Shot! I CANNOT WAIT for January 19th when the catty goes live and we can order! YEEHAW!

Thanks for looking!

Recipe:

Stamps: Thank You Kindly
Paper: Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: Big Shot, Leaf Branch Cuttlebug embossing folder, 7/8" black grosgrain ribbon (walmart), Scor-Pal

A New Year and a New Catty!!!!!!!!!!

Can we say PUMPED?!?! I received my complimentary copy of the new 2008-2009 Spring/Summer Idea Book and Catalog this afternoon when I got home from town....I was soooo excited, I cleaned up my kitchen right away, made a fresh pot of coffee and called my good friend, Leanne, and went over it page by page. She won't receive one right away so I wanted to go over the details of each new item with her! LOL...It was probably more torture for her than excitement the poor girl, but she sounded genuinely excited too! I must say that this catty is by far my favorite so far. There are a lot of beautiful friend sets, a couple more male oriented sets, kids sets, and the designer paper and scrappin kits are to die for! GOOORRRGGEEOUUUSS!!! Can't wait for all you PEEPS to receive yours! I will get them to you as soon as I receive my shipment (thought it SHOULD have been today so I will keep you posted!).

After a LONG break after Christmas, I decided enough is enough, time to get down and get serious - I created tonight....here is my creation:

Recipe:

Stamps: A Little Something
Paper: Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette
Ink: Riding Hood Red
Accessories: Paisley Cuttlebug folder, Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder, Scor-Pal, dimensionals, sponge daubers, Riding Hood Red ribbon.

This one was fun - I decided to split up the backgrounds with different cuttlebug folders and using the Scor-Pal for some added dimensions. Hope you enjoy it! I'm off for a few minutes...need to run my son to his friends house for a sleepover...and my daughter is already at a friends for a sleepover - wahooo! Quiet stamping time coming my way this evening! Ciao for now!

Inkingly Yours,
Lori :o)
